What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a line of dermal fillers that plump areas of lost volume and fill in lines and wrinkles to restore a youthful look. Juvéderm products contain hyaluronic acid, a natural compound that gives your body skin support and hydration. As you age, your production of hyaluronic acid slows, but Juvéderm can bring your levels back up to bring back your youthfulness.

What areas can be treated with Juvéderm?

Juvéderm effectively treats folds and wrinkles in the face. Dr. Riggins may recommend the injections to:

  • Reduce the appearance of smile lines (nasolabial folds)
  • Smooth marionette lines that are on the corners of your mouth
  • Restore volume in the mid face
  • Plump the lips
  • Smooth smoker’s lines

Dr. Riggins evaluates your skin to determine the best application of the dermal filler. He may combine Juvéderm injections with Botox to get you the look you want.

Do Juvéderm injections hurt?

Juvéderm does require injections for application, so you’ll feel a pinch and pressure during treatment. Juvéderm XC products contain lidocaine, a numbing agent, to ease discomfort during treatment. If you’re concerned about pain, talk to Dr. Riggins about applying ice or an additional topical numbing cream prior to the injections. The injection session lasts between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on where you’re being treated.

When will I see the effects of Juvéderm?

The results of Juvéderm are evident immediately. You may have some swelling and redness right after treatment, but this resolves in a week to reveal your optimal results. You may benefit from a follow-up 10-14 days following treatment to ensure you have achieved the look you desire. Dr. Riggins can add more filler if you decide you need it once any mild swelling has receded.

How long do the results of Juvéderm last?

Juvéderm is a temporary fix for lines, wrinkles, and lost volume. Most people enjoy the benefits for 12-18 months, after which maintenance treatments are available to help you maintain your new look.
